ALAEKWE, ANOZIE: ‘OUR U23 INVITATIONS WON’T AFFECT FC IFEANYIUBAH’

By Johnpaul Nnamdi

FC Ifeanyiubah skipper Chijioke Alaekwe and goalkeeper Chinedu Anozie are optimistic their recent invitations to the U23 national team won’t affect the club’s fortunes.

The duo alongside Solomon Nsude, who also made the list released by U23 coach Imama Amapakabor, have been integral parts of a young FCIU side that have defied the odds to be top of NPFL Group B.

Alaekwe has accounted for two of the club’s eight goals this season while Anozie, who was recently named LBA player of January, has seven clean sheets in nine appearances.

However, the players who are the most experienced in the squad are confident that their invitation to the national team won’t affect the team’s impressive form.

In a chat with naijasportsgrill.com.ng, Anozie pointed out that except when he is on national assignment outside the country, he will always come back to help his team.

His words; “I am happy to be invited to the national team and I believe it’s a result of hard work and dedication. My absence won’t be felt so much because I would always return to play league games, except when the national team is outside the country. I have other colleagues who I believe can do a good job between the sticks if I am not available.”

Alaekwe observed that the team is not built around an individual, so some players’ absence can’t affect their performance .

“The coaches have a lot of choice to make because we have good players in the team and they are always willing to give their best. Even if I am not here, there are better players who can fit in,” Alaekwe said.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah will face a big test against star-studded Akwa United in their next game in Uyo. The match will see a rejuvenated Akwa United against an FC Ifeanyiubah side despetate to sustain their place at the top of the log
